Exhibition in Hamra Beirut

I was walking in Hamra one day with my uncle and cousins and we stopped at this exhibition in a small gallery. What stopped me to look closer was this piece below, with its arabic calligraphy like patterns surrounding a face in the painting. To a foreigner it may appear as a pattern, but to me it appeared as arabic typography.

It reminded me of the image above that i scanned from my book: Arabic Graffiti by Pascal Zoghbi

Two becoming one

In our culture when two are to get married, they join their first names together, as though intertwined together using arabic traditional calligraphy. Above is my cousin and her fiance's names beautifully combined together on their engagement dinner menu.
